Frequently Asked Questions

Are classes suitable for me?  I have no experience.

Our beginner classes are designed to suit students with zero experience. These classes not only teach you the foundations but also help you build the strength and stamina needed to progress at your own pace.

I dont' have any upper body strength.  Can I still do classes?

We understand that everyone starts somewhere, and we've designed our classes to cater to all fitness levels. Our instructors incorporate a variety of conditioning exercises aimed at gradually building your upper body strength over time. Aerial disciplines are a great way to develop core strength but also enhance your grip strength. Trust us, you'll soon be impressing your colleagues with a firm handshake!

Who can do Pole/Aerials?

At South Pole Dance, we welcome anyone over the age of 18, regardless of gender identity – whether you're male, female, or non-binary. If you're 16 or 17, we'd love to have you with us, but we require parental consent, and we kindly ask your parent or guardian to attend your first class. We understand that unique circumstances may arise, so if you're under 16, we handle admissions on a case-by-case basis. Feel free to get in touch with us directly, and we'll be happy to discuss how we can make your pole/aerial journey a possibility.

Is my size/shape/gender/age ok to try pole and aerials?

Everybody - regardless of size or shape can enjoy the incredible benefits of pole dance and aerials. Your uniqueness is what makes you shine, and we encourage you to embrace that fully. Don't let any insecurities hold you back! Our instructors are here to support and guide you at your own pace, ensuring that you feel comfortable and empowered throughout your journey.

What should I wear to class?

For pole dance, we recommend wearing shorts and a singlet. Skin-to-pole contact aids in gripping, allowing you to pick up new skills with ease. Layering is also advised to ensure you stay warm and comfortable throughout the session. When it comes to aerials, opt for leggings and tight-fitting tops. This attire prevents clothes from riding up when you're upside down and minimises the risk of clothing getting caught in aerial apparatus. Additionally, the snug fit provides extra protection against apparatus burns.

What should I bring with me?

Be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout your session. For pole dance classes, bring a small towel or cloth to clean your pole, maintaining optimal grip during your moves and to clean the pole in the end of your class. Additionally, grip aids are available for purchase at the studio.
